The RAD Tump is over 50% wider than our TRAD(itional) Tump. This, combined with the u-shaped curve helps spread out the weight and reduce pressure on your head. The RAD Tump is best for folks who like to move the tump to different positions such as the top of the head as well as the forehead. If you use a tump only on your forehead, check out our TRAD(itional) Tump.
The RAD Tump is an extra option for our canoe packs and barrel harness. It quickly attaches to 2 buckles beside the shoulder straps.
The RAD Tump is inspired by my father, who introduced me to the outdoors and canoe tripping, and by Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia, who introduced me (without ever having met) to outdoor ethics and rock climbing. Both of these outdoor inspirations used tumps to carry their packs on radically different adventures.

DESCRIPTION
This tumpline helps carry your portage gear more efficiently by transferring weight off your shoulders and directly down your spine to your legs. The fit is quickly adjusted by pulling forward on the straps. We first fell in love with this system when seeing it used by Taylor Statten Camps 35 years ago!
Voyageurs carried 90lb fur bales using only a tumpline. Of course, modern canoeists are not Voyageurs; our neck muscles are not used as they once were, so we suggest using a tumpline as an aid along with shoulder straps and a hip belt. Stay within your comfort zone and experiment with what works for you.
